Blizzaster 2013

As everyone has heard, yes, Snowpocalypse has occurred on our fair city.  Blizzaster, snow-icane, snowtastrophe...I think I've listed all the names for Nemo, but it was indeed a big event here.  It is apparently the biggest snow event Boston has seen in years...and we got to play in it!

MIT closed school on Friday in anticipation of this great storm, since it was to hit around 7...at least at it's hardest.  It really just snowed all day, a half an inch an hour.  We stretched our legs before we would be confined to the indoors by walking to the Common and getting some floral wire for me, so I could make tissue flowers for my gorgeous vases.

At around 7, the wind picked up and the snow hit...HARD!

Our windows during the night-covered with snow.

The next morning

On our rooftop

Count how many cars there are.
*Hint: those snow banks are cars

We also got bored whilst cooped up and made this picture:

Pretty awesome right?  Paul's quite talented

The next morning, it was almost like the apocalypse did happen.  Not a car was out and all of the Beacon Hill residents were out walking about, and looking highly confused.  It was so much fun getting to walk in the street without worrying if a car was coming.  People were generally just having a good time in the snow and seeing neighbors.

Over one of the major roads.  Pedestrians own this city!

The Charles...frozen.

Paul and I went out in the snow and bullied about.  Here is an account of that fun:

I tried to sled down the Hill...it wasn't the greatest

Oh Paul

Getting a push from a nice neighbor

For my Mom.  She loves those ducks

Wipe out

Paul tries it

I got moves

The sled actually disintegrated later.  We're gonna have to invest a stronger sled.

If you gaze to the left, you can see Paul in the green jacket and me next to him in the red hood.

This was the MIT Sloan battle between Paul's ocean (Baltic) and another ocean (Caribbean).  It went from snow fight to King of the Snow Pile quickly.

Now it is Sunday, and Paul is busily prepping for his week ahead.  I'm busy looking cute in everything my wonderful Aunt Angela makes me.  Picture will come soon...when I don't look so blah.  Perhaps today, we will venture forth again to play more in the snow.  Or we'll just snuggle :).

Happy Blizzard Day!

Plant Trek

It has been roughly two weeks since plant trek ended and I am now just getting to the blog update.  School has been ridiculous for me and even as I'm typing this, I'm unsure as to if I truly have the time to do it.  But I shall press on because it is important for me to keep this record up to date.

As most of you know, for two weeks, Paul was on a glorified field trip with the rest of his class.  They visited different manufacturing plants across the nation and had a really great time doing it.  Here is the entire escapade mapped out for you:

The first leg was in Raleigh, going to Novartis.  Sorry, not many pictures there.

Then on to Detroit to GM's plant.  There were some great cars, so boys, enjoy.

I don't know what this is, but I'm sure someone will love it

Our friend Gold finds cars hilarious

Paul could be a salesman

The Scooby Doo Van!
After GM, the gang went on to Indianapolis to see Amazon.  Sorry no pics but then they went to Peoria to see Caterpillar, and basically played in the "big sandbox".  Paul said he couldn't get over how large the machinery was.  I think he really is interested in playing with the big toys.

Paul's summer team

There were some simulations.

I feel like this is something super nerdy

The Big Show

Ha

I don't know why, but I thought this picture was hilarious because it looks like Dan is running away

LGO women

After Cat, everyone spent the day in Chicago to fly out of it and then went to Portland for Nike and then Seattle for Boeing.  There weren't a whole lot more pictures from Paul because in many of the plants, you can't take pictures.  But everyone went on a hike in Seattle and Paul took some more pretty photos.

I thought this was hilarious.  The faces are priceless

Paul and Greg

Everywhere the LGOs go, they make MIT LGO with their bodies.  Here's that shot

And again

I thought it was really lovely and I'm jealous.

Anyway, Austin, TX was the next stop to see Dell and then lastly LA for Amgen and relaxation.

Although I am so happy Paul had such a great time, I am most happy that he is home with me...even though he did bring back his sniffles and tried to give it to me.  The joke's on him though because I didn't get it much and gave it right back to him.  So ha.

On another Paul note, he did Interview fest for his upcoming internship, starting in June.  Basically what happens is that everyone interviews for some of the partner companies, they rank those companies and the companies rank who their top picks are.  After all the assessing, the LGOs are matched up to the companies.

We find out in late February/early March where our Paul is going to end up.  It maybe in various places, like Charleston, Seattle, Puerto Rico...who knows?  So think of us at that time, and I will of course update everyone on the new news.

In Rachel news, I have been back at school for three weeks and feel like tearing out my hair.  Maybe it will calm down soon, but I have two quizzes upcoming this week, my client to prepare for, and literacy group where we go into a local preschool and help at risk children with their lit skills.  So, after listing all that out, I need to go.  Happy February and early spring!

...it's snowing today.
