Vermont excursion and what is to come

Hello again!  It is now time for part deux of our vacationing time.  I figured I better do all of this before the end of the week when things go crazy...because I will FINALLY be in orientation at BU.  Onwards...

Paul had an amazing summer team at MIT and one of his peers invited us up to a lakehouse in Vermont.  It was right on Lake Champlain and across the way, I could see my beloved Adirondack Mountains in New York.  It was such a peaceful time and so quiet, which was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We really enjoyed our time and are grateful to have spent it in such a serene place with great people.

We also visited the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem to look at the Ansel Adams exhibit (he's a photographer).  It was fun and we didn't do too much in Salem because I personally do not wish to ruin Halloween for myself when I do visit sometime in October.  Otherwise, the rest of vacation was dedicated to relaxing and watching old TV shows.

RIGHT NOW!  Paul is currently at orientation, meeting the rest of his classmates in the Sloan department.  It seems like a lot of people, although I won't know until Thursday when I meet them at a reception.  But I think the most exciting news for this week is that SCHOOL IS FINALLY STARTING FOR ME!! YIPPEE!  No longer will I be a woman of leisure.  I am ready to meet my classmates and finally learn.  Friday, however, is when I take my test to see if I get out of a class.  I have been reading, studying, and slaving for three months.  So, please send positive thoughts my way on Friday at 8:30 AM.

Well, that's it.  Now begins our crazy adventure: two students in grad school.  Good luck to us.

To Finley and to my friend Clara-Happy Birthday tomorrow!

Cruising the Cape

Hello everyone!  Paul finished with his summer semester and it's time for traveling!!!  You have no idea how ready I was.

On Saturday, Paul and I decided to rent a Zipcar convertible and just drive along Cape Cod.  What is Zipcar?  It's our way of getting a car without having to do a huge rental process...and it's cheap.  Basically, there are tons of cars that you can easily access, book for a time, you get to use them.  Free gas too.  It's awesome for when we have to do a Costco run once in a while.

Paul said it made him feel super manly.  I thought it was super fun

So, off we went.  It was a cloudy day with loads of rain at several points, but we had fun all the same.  We rented a couple of bikes and biked 25 miles...you're impressed, I know.  Trust me, our legs paid for it the next day.  We went from Orleans, which is at the crook of the elbow, up close to Provincetown and back.  It poured in parts, but nothing could keep us from singing songs as we biked along.

Notice something different????

I got a haircut!  Bangs!

We stopped for lunch at a sandwich stop and saw a few beaches.  It rained so hard on the last one and we were offered help from a nice guy in a truck, but we thought, well, we're already soaked, so it won't make a difference now and declined the offer.  Nice thought anyway.

Lighthouse

We also saw a windmill.  There are lots of pictures on this post.

We pretended to be a windmill.

Even saw a little family history.

So close...

Then, of course, we ended our wonderful excursion with a seafood feast and prowling the coast.

All in all, a fantastic vacation.  Next post will be about Vermont, but I don't want to overload my faithful followers, so, I will probably do that next week.  Until then, cheerio!

Burial at MIT

Hello again friends!

It's August, so it's hot, but it's also time for Paul's summer classes to wind down.  He pretty much lives at MIT, which leaves me alone and bereft.  Sigh.  It's not his fault and all things considered, this summer has been amazing and we have spent the most time together.  Bain usually had terrible hours all the time, so I guess a week or two of terrible is better than the usual.

I am now just waiting.  August 30 is when my adventure begins...BUT IT'S SO FAR AWAY!  I'm clawing at the walls to do something because nobody else can do stuff.  It's a busy time of year for everyone but me.  So, I decided last night to go to the free outside showing of Shakespeare's Coriolanus. If you don't know that play, that's ok 'cause neither did I.  But it was well done in my opinion, though I am not an expert.  Still, I find that because I have to concentrate so much on what is said during a Shakespearean play, I think more about the topics shown.  What is a city but the people?  Anyway, look it up, it's an interesting one.

Now, on to our happenings.  Paul and I had a role switch this past week.  In one of his classes, Paul had to read Burial at Thebes, a modern update on Sophocles's Antigone.  Of course, when I heard the class was to produce and act out the play, I didn't care....kidding.  I was all over it.  His team that was given a section to act out were told to pick a theme and use it to act out with.  So, I came up with Star Wars.  And who was the star of the show (besides the title character)?  Why, Darth Vader, King Creon, my Paul Meggs.

This was Friday and the actual culmination of the project turned out well.  I expected a little less, seeing that most of these kids did not come from theatrical backgrounds, but it was probably better than when my school performed Antigone.  I created some of the costumes (note R2D2) and gave some directions.  Here are a few pictures of the group performing:

      Good job Team Sixy!

Well, that concludes my post at this time.  Next week, we plan on traveling about since Paul gets a little time off after this week.  Hopefully, Paul will get some rest.  Probably not, since I will want to go on a walk about.  Anyway, hope all is well and good luck to all my North Cobb friends!  First week back and I hope your school year goes amazingly.  Love!

A New York wedding

Good morning!  Hope all is well with everyone and that you are ready for the newest update.  This weekend, we attended a wedding at West Point, New York.  One of Paul's teammates in his classes was married at the West Point chapel.  I have never visited this area and I was not disappointed by the beauty of New York I have so often been mesmerized by.  The school is situated on the grand Hudson River and was surrounded by very little.  It was a great time and we enjoyed getting out of the city for a while.

So...there aren't any pictures of Paul and myself.  Hopefully we will get them from others soon!  We were depending on friends and the photographers to take those pictures for us.  We were busy having a ball.   It was an intimate gathering, but full of love and heartily enjoyed.  All the best to David and Sarah Chou.

As for us, we have been great.  In 29 days, orientation starts up for me...not that I'm counting.   I am studying to test out of a class, so cross those fingers for me!  Paul is finishing up his summer classes and soon he will be super busy, probably going to start grunting at me for food instead of asking kindly like he normally does.  For the most part though, we love it here and we feel that we've had so much more time together.  I love these adventures with my best friend.

August is already here and we have been living in Boston for 2 months.  They have gone by so fast and have been so much fun.  To all my teacher friends and past students, good luck on the upcoming school year.  It's interesting to see that it's August and I'm not suddenly tense with that realization.  No more grading for me!  But I'll be sad knowing that I won't get to see all those kids that I adored in the hallway.  It's on to a new life and I wish nothing but the best to my North Cobb companions.  All the love and luck!

I am so excited about the next couple of weeks: Paul and I switch places.  More on that later (it's an exciting surprise) with loads of pictures to be sure ;).  See ya!
