Jaco, Montezuma and the Incredible Wailing Woman

Uh oh, I'm blogging a day late!  Rachel!  This is not to be had!  You had one job!

It's ok, it's Paul's fault (I'm kidding...it was both of us).  We didn't go through the photos to pick out our favorites.  Plus, we were absurdly tired.  Like, went to bed at 8:30 tired.

This weekend, we went to the beach because we felt that we deserved some r&r, but since it's me and Paul, we did not find too much of either.  The world had other plans.  But at least it looked pretty.

These were taken at Montezuma

We start our trip in Jaco.  This weekend was the beginning of a two week break for the Costa Rican kiddos, so everyone and their momma decided to go to the beach, giving us fantastic traffic.  Once we got to Jaco, we stayed at a hotel next to a bar.  It would've been fine, if Paul's phone didn't die so we couldn't put on any white noise to drown them out.

Then, the karaoke started.  I did sing one song, because it's karaoke and I'm like a moth to the flame.  However, it was so loud that I could not stay any longer due to a headache and opted to just go to bed.  And then the wailing began.  I kid you not, this woman WAILED all. night. long.  Karaoke ended at 1:00 AM and we were in a stupor of sweat (no AC) and ringing ears.  It was an incredible night.

The next day was better.  We took an hour long taxi boat (lancha) to Montezuma beach and it was beautiful.  We met a dude at the hostel that we waited at, who was motorcycling from California to Argentina.  We thought it was interesting.  On the boat ride, we got to see some turtles and dolphins.

Look at that "wisdom" in my husband's hair

We finally made it to Montezuma...and we don't have too many pictures to show.  Reason being: we were having adventures without the camera.  I know, you are disappointed in us.  But every once in a while, you need to just do stuff without the fear breaking the expensive camera.

Our biggest adventure was when we walked over to the Montezuma waterfalls.  Or, what we thought they were.  We made it to a waterfall that had a deep pool under it and thought it was something.  Yet, as we sat there, we saw a large group headed even further up river.  And, being a couple of snoops, we decided to head that way too.  One Costa Rican that was in the area with us said he could take us there for a tip.  In retrospect, that was probably shady, but we thought, why not?  Armando was extremely helpful in getting us around the area and we finally ended up at the actual waterfalls.

Not our pictures, but this is what we saw.  The bird is a Tiger Heron.

That evening, we stayed at the Luna Llena, which was much better than Jaco's hotel.

I should always have a window to sit in.

That evening we went to an International Film Festival and saw a movie.  Then we passed out.

But woke up really early to some lovely images.  Enjoy the sunrise and beach.

Does anyone else see the ogre's face in the clouds?  I do

We took the boat back to Jaco and went back to San Jose.  Today, we are thrilled because our good friend, Andrew, a fellow LGO, is coming to visit us.  It will be so good to see our friend.  He'll be here for the 4th of July, so we are going to have our own celebration.  We are ready!

I leave you with Paul's most magical moment from the weekend: he found a squirrel.
